Surfer:

Belmar is a popular vacation destination because of its natural and recreational resources and close proximity to New York and Philadelphia. There are beaches for sunbathing, surfing, swimming, and fishing. The boardwalk and beachtown has steak and seafood restaurants, an active arts scene, sporting events, and music festivals.

Belmar beach is among the most popular surf spots on the East Coast. Belmar often hosts surfing events and competitions. Along with surfing, Belmar also has an active skate community and skate park constructed by American Ramp Company. Around the corner from Klein's Seafood Restaurant near the Shark River Inlet is The Boatworks where the Belmar Arts Council sponsors regular art shows, community events, open-mike concerts, and film screenings.

Belmar's "E" Street is world famous as it gave rise to Bruce Springsteen's "E Street Band". Springsteen's original keyboardist, David Sancious, was a resident of E Street in Belmar at the time the band was formed. The Sancious' family home was often used as a practice venue where they honed their musical craft in the early pre-fame years. Belmar is also home to the first and oldest first-aid squad in the United States.

The Mayfair is this really charming hotel, perfectly located right across from the boardwalk at 10th Ave in Belmar. It was built in the 1920's. From the outside it looks like a gigantic east coast wood-sided porched house. Inside it possesses a nostalgic beach hotel elegance with its grand staircase and high tin ceilings. The lobby rooms are large and sunny with many many plants and comfortable rocking chairs. Once there was a dance floor and restaurant.

I loved The Mayfair because it is a beach hotel. You can booze it up by the side of a pool or walk across the street to the beach. I hung out with a couple of strippers. They were not my girlfriends. My girlfriends were nice girls without tattoos. My friends mostly drank. Then there was Lifeguard Bob and the drink of the day club. I met him twenty years later surfing in Malibu. He’s a music producer now.
